Photos: Thousands Of Shiite Muslims Storm Abuja Despite Killing Of Members

Thousands of members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria and Arba’een mourners, marched towards Abuja earlier today for the annual Arbaeen annual trek.

Members of the sect were pictured marching towards the federal capital territory despite the killing of over six of their members by soldiers yesterday at Zuba bridge in Abuja.

The followers of Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky converged in Abuja to embark on the Arbaeen Symbolic Trek to mark the day that Yazid bn Mu’awiyyah killed Imam Hussain Ibn Ali and his family.

The trek commenced on Sunday (today) and will last for three days.

The trek will be also feature the ‘Free Zakzaky’ protest to demand the release of their leader Sheikh Ibraheem Zakzaky, his wife and hundreds of followers who are currently in detention for over 3 years since the Zaria massacre in 2015.

The Shiite group said its members won’t be hindered from the trek despite the military clash.

The Arba’een is the religious ritual for the commemoration of the Prophet Mohammad’s grandson Husayn ibn Ali’s martyrdom.
